ABOUT US
Welcome to the ‘Advice in Hackney’ website.
The purpose of this website is to enable local people from the London Borough of Hackney who need help and advice with housing, employment, debt, immigration, welfare benefits or any other special legal or general problem to find out which organisations in Hackney can help them.
The website is also for advisors and volunteers who work in Hackney based advice giving organisations. The website contains information about free training courses - funded by ‘The Sustainable Advice in Hackney’ project - to help local advisors and volunteers keep up-to-date with changes to the law or new government regulations affecting their clients.
The website also has an 'advice finder’ (directory) and a ‘useful resources’ section with a list of advice giving organisations, based inside and outside of Hackney, so that local people can find the right organisations to help them.
This website began life as the ‘Sustainable Advice in Hackney’ project, which was a two-year project funded by the Big Lottery’s ‘Advice Services Transition Fund’. The project ran between 2013 and 2015 and was led by Hackney Community Law Centre in partnership with the East End Citizens Advice Bureau, City and Hackney Mind, Age UK East London, The Hackney Caribbean Elderly Orgnisation, the Hackney Migrant Centre and Hackney based Kurdish and Turkish community centre Halkevi.
