City and Hackney Mind is the Local Mind Association for the London Borough of Hackney and the City of London. Some of our services extend into the London Borough of Newham.
Our commitment to the advancement of good mental health and supporting our users with their psychological well-being is reflected in the range and quality of services we provide. One in four of us will experience a mental health problem at some point in our lives.
Welfare Rights Service
Our Welfare Rights Project provides both Welfare Rights Advice and Casework Support to individuals with mental health needs living in the community. Casework/Advice will primarily support individuals around
- Welfare benefits applications
- Medicals
- Appeals
- Tribunals
- Housing advice
- Debt advice
- Negotiating local mental health and welfare services
How we deliver our services:
City and Hackney Mind has advisors who work from our Tudor Road base. This service is independent of statutory mental health services and confidential to City and Hackney Mind. The service is available to individuals living in the community who are not receiving support from their local Community Mental Health Team.
We hold regular weekly advice sessions based at the North and South Hackney Community Mental Health Teams for their clients.
We also hold weekly drop-in advice sessions at London Borough of Hackney’s Customer Service Centre. We also provide three sessions for anyone living in Hackney (funded by the Hackney Crisis Discretionary Support Scheme at three GP surgeries in the borough on:
- Fridays between 9am – 1pm at Well Street surgery
- Fridays between 3pm – 5.30pm at the Nightingale practice
- Tuesday mornings at Elsdale Surgery
